Introduction to 2D Design

In 2D Design, students explore the elements and principles of design using a variety of mediums. They start with line, then shape going into value and finishing with texture. In these elements they use ink, pencil and black and white paints in their projects. Color is explored with paints, markers and color pencils in three projects to explore color and theory of color.

Line Assignment: Develop and create a non-objective design using line as the main focus. Fully engage the composition and utilize linear networks to add variety, texture and value. Ink on Bristol Board

Shape Assignment: Working with a curvilinear shape, a line and a simple rectilinear shape, create a two-part composition on Bristol paper using only black, white, and two middle gray values.
Value Assignment: Recreate one of the two compositions from the Shape Assignment. Using a full range of gray values to give volume and interest to a flat shape design. Give the composition a sense of illusion with the values and textures.
